Week 97: November 3rd-9th, 2024
The weather is definitely getting colder as we head into San Diego's versions of fall and winter. I can no longer leave the house confidently without some sort of jacket and I suspect the AC won't get turned on again until late May.
In San Diego, it is tricky to pick outfits for going out when the weather is chillier than preferred. You could wear a true autumnal ensemble with a coat and boots, but you might be overdoing it. You could wear a dress but you might be cold without a sweater and tights. Last year, I bought my first pair of high quality tights from Sheertex and only got a couple uses out of them when I was in Seattle. I pulled them from deep within my closet this week as I picked a skirt + tights combo for my friends birthday dinner at Pali Wine Company.
Our mismatched group of friends, some in dresses with no jackets, and some in thick sweaters, converged on Pali Wine Company in Little Italy to celebrate Alyssa's 25th birthday. We were a big enough group that we had to sit outside, so I was thankful for the heat lamps and my choice to wear boots and tights.

Pali Wine Company isn't new, but it was new to most of us, and we pretended to know things about the wine selection as best we could. Like most places in Little Italy, they had dog treats at the entrance (I first thought it was a bucket of corks... I was mistaken) and a lot of trendy, rustic decor.

I got the Seasonal tasting, and while none were "good," I didn't hate it. I was glad to have read the description of the Orange Pinot Gris after finishing my glass, as I started to question what "skin contact" meant... One of my friends joked that he'd seen the server go in the back and take of his shoes and socks, wiggle his toes a bit, and step into a barrel... I would rather not know. After butchering most of the wine names in conversation, we also got a bunch of food to share. I got the burger (not pictured, as the lighting was bad), and we all shared charcuterie, calamari, and caprese.

Everything was pretty good, and I can see why Pali Wine Co. is a popular place for trendy 20- and 30-somethings. I would consider going back simply for the food, since I am not really a "wine girly," but only in the warmer months of the year.
Alyssa's birthday present was a strawberry, red-40 themed gift that I had great fun curating at World Market. Of course, it also came with a signature Elena © "Silly Goose bird day" card.
I love celebrating my friends and trying new places, so this week was a win for me. I just don't want to think about wine and feet.
See you next week!
