Week 95: October 20th-26th, 2024

Another perk of living right by a shopping center in Mission Valley is that I can try new coffee shops like Ox Coffee. One morning at work, I took time between meetings to walk across the street and check out Ox Coffee.

It took me less than five minutes to walk there. The exterior wasn’t very special but inside, Ox Coffee kind of looked like a cell phone store at first. I think it was the blue and green logo with the white, sterile walls.

Once I got further inside, it felt less like an AT&T store and more like a coffee shop. It smelled good, like warm bread and coffee beans, and I took some time to read the menu. There was a seasonal menu as well, and the toasted marshmallow drink caught my eye. I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet either, since my meetings at work started pretty early, so I got myself an everything bagel and cream cheese as well. The barista was very cheery and we complimented each other’s lash extensions.

While I waited for my drink, I couldn’t help but overhear the craziest conversation between two guys sitting at a table. The younger guy was explaining something about a cult-like retreat, and a relationship with a girl that went south, and how he punched a wall. The older man just kind of nodded and listened, but I had to turn away because my face was way too expressive. When my name was called to pick up my drink, the barista and I shared a knowing look, kind of like “What the f….?” I knew she was eavesdropping as well. It was funny, but definitely a strange conversation to hear in a cute coffee shop.

My toasted marshmallow coffee was decent, but next time I’m not going to order from the seasonal menu. My bagel was whatever, it did the job and filled my tummy, but the two items were definitely not worth $9.75.

Apologies for the short (and late!) post this week, as I’ve been slammed with moving and cleaning. I love my new apartment and I can’t wait til I’m more settled in. Thankfully, I will be able to fuel myself with (slightly overpriced) Ox Coffee drinks, since it is only steps away from my door.

Bonus: I also tried SOT KBBQ in Convoy with my sister and her husband and it was amazing!

We didn’t overhear any crazy conversations at SOT BBQ, but I’ll keep my ears open for some more juicy gossip.

See you next week.
