Week 88: September 1st-7th, 2024

Warm weather is usually what I prefer, but this week's heat wave in San Diego felt like a Las Vegas-inspired hellscape. Being slightly more inland means San Diego's 90°F is La Mesa's 95°F. As I'm writing this, apparently it is a whopping 104°F outside. Not sure how anyone wouldn't believe in the current climate crisis... because this is crazy.

Anyway, I'm lucky enough to have AC in my apartment, which makes the heat wave tolerable. Many of my friends who don't have the luxury of conditioned air in their homes have sought refuge at my place, or admit to sitting a little longer in their cars with the air blasting.

To beat the heat and enjoy it as best we could, my friends and I celebrated our bestie Kassidy's birthday on a Seaforth Rentals boat in Mission Bay. We got our favorite captain, Ryan, and enjoyed a great day out on the water. This was nothing new, so it doesn't count as this week's SNEW (other than that this was the first time we rented a double-decker boat with a slide!), but I'm keeping it simple this week. This week, I just tried a new smoothie.

The Yogurt Mill in La Mesa is a cute little shop that has a wide variety of offerings. My boyfriend and I go there often because the workers are super nice, and their portions are massive. This week, the desert-like heat outside inspired me to try their Blue Cherry Bomb smoothie. It has cherries, acai, blueberries and banana, and usually uses vanilla or peanut butter froyo. However, they were out of both, so I tried it with their cheesecake flavor froyo, and it was delicious! Super refreshing on a hot day, while still satisfying my sweet tooth. Apologies for the crappy photo, but I was more focused on cooling down than getting the best picture.

My smoothie was already melting quickly!

Since the heat zaps my energy, and because I spent most of today doing more apartment hunting and tours, I'm keeping this one short. I'll report back when it doesn't feel like an oven outside.

If I don't melt before then, I'll see you next week.
