Week 84: August 4th-10th, 2024

As someone who needs regular hangouts with my friends to feel sane, things have been much more complicated as we all get older, busier, and more established in our jobs and routines. I find myself missing the college days where our schedules were pretty much the same and we didn't need to worry about whether we have enough PTO saved up or not.

In a rare mid-week moment of scheduling miracles, I got to get some pretty good Japanese food at Chef JUN with one of my besties, Syann. I'd never been to Chef JUN before and was very happy with how good our dinner was.

For a Wednesday evening, the place was pretty busy as well. The tables around us were mainly filled by families with younger children or groups of friends. It was really nice to take a break from the work and apartment hunt grind to catch up with Syann and enjoy a really good poke bowl.

It isn't getting down to the wire yet, but the urgency for finding and securing a new apartment is steadily growing. Despite touring 12 different units just this week, I have yet to find a place that I'm willing to sign a lease for. My nightly routine of happy social media scrolling or online shopping/browsing has now turned into a frantic, almost compulsive sift through the rental property noise online. I constantly check Facebook groups and Facebook Marketplace for rental listings. I obsessively open Zillow, and not in the fun way anymore. have the website of pretty much every major property management company in San Diego bookmarked on my phone. I refresh the pages for available rentals multiple times a day. Of course, I'm also looking during the worst time to rent, when prices are highest, and it doesn't help that I'm incredibly picky.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to finishing this long work week with some well-deserved celebrations for my friend Victoria's birthday. It'll be good to see my friends and get my mind off of the nightmare apartment search.

See you next week.
