Week 82: July 21-27th, 2024

Good food and good friends make life so much better. I was able to catch up with my friend who was in town for work over Thai food. Since their hotel was in La Jolla, I found a spot a few blocks away, King of Thai Cuisine, for us to try.

It was one of those rarer sunny evenings for the notoriously cloudy La Jolla, and we enjoyed golden hour on our walk over to King of Thai. I was too busy yapping away to remember to take photos, so I've stolen this one from their website.

The service was super fast, and the chicken Pad See Ew and vegetable Tom Yum soup hit the spot. I'm sorry I was sleeping on the job (or busy being a chatter box, per usual) and didn't get any of my own photos, but here is their Yelp Page as well if you'd like to check it out.

Of course, though it wasn't Something New, I am proud to announce that this week, I was also able to donate blood at my 2nd annual Comic Con blood drive! (Remember Week 29? I barely do!) This year's freebie was a Deadpool x Wolverine shirt, which I was thrilled to get my hands on. It will become a staple pajama shirt like my Guardians of the Galaxy one from 2023.

Love Deadpool's support for the SDBB!

My disappointment in not being one of the lucky people who did manage to secure a 2024 Comic Con badge this year was made slightly better when I realized how many more people were attending this one. The live line reports and daily recaps on social media made me feel a bit less resentful when I saw how crowded and hectic it seemed.

Though I still would've preferred to get a badge and actually go inside, I still had a great time checking out the off-sites and seeing the transformation of downtown San Diego. The Abbott Elementary AVA Fest was fun, and FX and Hulu put together some great activations.

My visit to the official Comic Con Art Show at the Manchester Grand Hyatt reignited my appreciation for artists and creativity. If I was rich, I would've bought many, many items.

I'm definitely going to try to get a badge for 2025 in September, so fingers crossed!

The SDCC Art Show was very inspiring!

Bonus: This week, some of my favorite Twitch streamers and Sims 4 content creators collectively raised over $200,000 for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund. This was an incredible event called #Simmers4Palestine put together by the icon herself, Kayla Sims, or lilsimsie, and I am so proud to have participated and to be a part of this community!

See you next week!
