Week 64: March 17th-23rd, 2024
You know those mornings where you know you should eat something (breakfast is the most important meal of the day after all!) but you can't decide on any of the many options in your kitchen? Yeah, as someone who doesn't believe in restricting breakfast time to classic breakfast foods and who regularly eats spaghetti for breakfast, I don't usually have this problem. However, I recently have been a little pickier in the mornings. Who knows why this is happening to me, but oh well. Maybe we can blame the funky weather and the noticeable increase in allergies (thanks, pollen!).
Whatever the reason may be, this week I faced this truly very serious dilemma. Nothing sounded appetizing, but I knew I needed to get fuel into my system before I got hangry. Only one thing and one thing only would be acceptable as a meal that morning. Not to be dramatic, but if I didn't get an acai bowl into my stomach as soon as possible, I would have passed away. Probably.
Thankfully, Yelp came to the rescue and I found Pure Press Juice Bar.
Facing the cold, windy morning air, I ventured out on a 10 min drive to the San Carlos neighborhood of San Diego in search of my coveted acai bowl. There was a weird mix of blue sky and dark storm clouds in the sky on the drive over. It had rained the night before but thankfully my windshield wipers were not needed on this little adventure.

I pulled into a small, cramped parking lot and according to Maps, I had arrived. But I didn't see "Pure Press Juice Bar" on any of the storefronts... Then I realized that this little shack in the middle of the parking lot was what I was looking for. I initially thought it was just a small maintenance building or housing for dumpsters.

Lo and behold, it wasn't dumpsters. Fearing the wind and the cold air, I mustered up the courage to get out of the warm car and order the acai bowl of my dreams.

I got myself a classic acai bowl and requested peanut butter as an added topping. I also got a PB Acai smoothie for my roomie Shayna.

I was glad to be out of the wind and booked it home to enjoy my meal. After starting out pretty frozen solid, after giving it some time to melt, I ate about half of it before I got full. The strawberries were super sweet. It wasn't my usual unconventional rice or spaghetti breakfast, but it was still delicious! Sometimes you got to just listen to your gut (literally) and venture into the cold, windy weather for an acai bowl.
See you next week.
