Week 50: December 10-16, 2023
As we're nearing the end of the year, I'm considering whether or not I want to continue doing Something New Every Week, and I'm leaning toward yes. It's gotten me out of the house, helped me explore new things and own my role as the main character in my life story.
Working from a coffee shop is always a fun thing to do. It is like a mini adventure, where you can have one of those main character moments. I used to do this a lot in college. Near college campuses, it is way more common to see people hunched over their laptops in cafes for hours, but this was the first time I've brought my laptop to a coffee shop post-graduation. I wanted a change of scenery from the walls of my apartment, and The Simple Coffee House was a great place to do this.
For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, a main character moment is where someone feels and acts like they are the main character in a Hallmark movie. It may be a bit narcissistic, but its a fun way to move through the world sometimes. Especially if you are a good, well-meaning protagonist in your story, and not the villain. (Though, being the villain may be fun, I have just never really tried it...)

I chose The Simple Coffee House because it was close enough to my apartment that it didn't feel like I was embarking on a mission that would take the entire day. The Yelp reviews for The Simple Coffee House were good, and I had actually mentally made a note to check this place out back when I got our Cabo disposable film developed at the CVS next door. I was worried the WiFi signal wouldn't be that strong, and I was right, but it was still usable. Its not like I was doing high performance gaming there, just job searching and writing this post. Here is their Instagram as well if you'd like to check it out.

I ordered a bagel sandwich and a caramel macchiato with oat milk. Both were decent. I have a tendency to go blank when I order something at a new place, so I have no clue why I decided to order those two things, but at least they were good.

There were a couple groups of people that seemed to be in work-related meetings, or they were just very professionally dressed and proper friends. A cheery group of friends had various Christmas sweaters on and exchanged stories of where they found them. Most said Goodwill, which I thought was sweet.
It was great to feel productive and get some work done before Sam's annual holiday party over the weekend. I will probably be out of commission with the Sunday scaries, so it was good to get a head start on my to-do list.
Bonus: I started wrapping presents this week and I love how they're turning out!

See you next week.
