Week 44: October 29-November 4th, 2023
After a disappointing Returning Registration ticket sale (didn't make it past "More than an Hour" in the queue before it sold out!) for SDCC 2024, I needed some retail therapy. But, in this economy, we can't just be spending willy-nilly (unless its Comic-Con tickets, I guess...) So, I settled for the low-level dopamine kick from getting groceries and a beverage. I was already planning on going to H-Mart to restock my supply of various types of noodles (instant, fresh, knife-cut, dry, etc.), so I figured I could find a new place to try in Convoy.
A quick search online led me to Yun Tea. Their soft opening was less than a month ago, so they're pretty new to the scene. Here's the Yun Tea Yelp Page that initially caught my eye. Also, a quick read on Eater told me Yun Tea was created by SDB Restaurant Group. I have been to, and enjoyed, some of their other restaurants, like Steamy Piggy and Flama Llama.
Yun Tea itself is shoved into a corner in a center called Convoy Village.

It was really cute inside, with tons of little glass display cases.

Despite how many people were there, I think they were going for a calming atmosphere. There were decorations of clouds and water, and many mossy grass images. It was nice and felt airy. It was slightly too big of a space to feel cozy, at least not on a sunny day. But, I could see it being a great place to go for some studying if it (god forbid!) rains anytime soon.
I decided to just order something simple. I'm not hard to please when it comes to getting a little treat, so I settled on the Strawberry Matcha. I paid and the guy behind the counter handed me a stamp card, which I gladly accepted. He looked a little worried when he said " Oh, be careful... the ink on the stamp is not dry yet... Please be careful..." It was like his life depended on it. Don't worry, I was careful.

As I waited for my Strawberry Matcha, 75% sweetness, I decided to TRY to organize the digital weeds of my Notes. I'm one of the many people who uses their Notes app like a digital Post-It, or the back of a hand or an envelope. It is a chaotic, haphazard place of lists, plans, thoughts, feelings and more. I was going down a rabbit hole of Notes and losing interest in my decision fast. Thankfully, My lackluster efforts were cut short anyway when I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Excuse me, we're out of matcha foam... Ummmm.... So, is regular cheese foam okay?" It was the guy from behind the counter. He looked so sad and worried, like it could have been last straw after the stamp ink for this guy... I assured him that the lack of matcha foam was not going to kill me. Yes, cheese foam is totally okay. He was SO relieved. I wondered if he'd been dealing with difficult customers all day and felt bad for him.
Regular cheese foam is obviously not the same as matcha foam, but it still checked the box for delicious beverage. I made sure to thank the Yun Tea guys profusely and assure them the regular cheese foam was delicious, mainly so they wouldn't look so worried anymore. Plus, it was delicious! It was more of a strawberry cheesecake vibe than a strawberry and matcha tea vibe, but I didn't mind. I'll just have to go back when they do have matcha foam in stock.

See you next week.
