Week 19: May 7th-13th, 2023
I was an overachiever this week. I somehow managed THREE new experiences - a new Target location, a tedious visit to the DMV, and a devastating Warriors loss at a new bar.
Let's start with the good stuff. A tribute to Week 1 and my everlasting love for all things Target: I was able to visit a new Target location in the Midway District near Point Loma. Amidst the strange mix of industrial buildings, strip clubs, and trendy Liberty Station, the Midway is home to the Sports Arena Blvd Target. At first glance, she looked like any standard Target. There were even our favorite giant red balls lining the front entrance.

We started off strong this week with a quick trip to therapy (Target) while knocking off some errands (had to get more toothpaste...thrilling, I know.) I meandered through the beauty section and was pleasantly surprised by this Target's flooring. The beauty section was even more beautiful because of this pattern on the floor (and because all of the potential goodies to purchase).

Unfortunately, you'll see that things get progressively worse as the week unfolds. To cross all my T's and dot all my i's with my new set of wheels, Harvey Clifford, I had to make a dreaded trip to the DMV. In the past, I have gone to the more central San Diego DMV location in Hillcrest. However, this time I was going after work and rush hour traffic was no joke. I decided to save myself some sanity by going to the closer DMV in El Cajon (a new location!). Not sure if this was the right decision, but I guess any decision to go to the DMV is going to skew a bit... wrong.
Anyways, I'm sure it is unsurprising when I tell you that the El Cajon DMV is in fact not a magical, efficient place. Honestly, whoever designed the queue system for the California DMV needs to be interrogated and ultimately fired. They must have a special interest in inefficiency and torture. The CA DMV has tried to modernize the system with an online feature where you can "Get In Line" and receive a ticket number, but these efforts may have been in vain. I still spent two and a half hours, 90% of it spent just waiting, at the El Cajon DMV. Thankfully, my efforts were not in vain and Harvey Clifford is officially registered in the State of California! My new license plate has 'GER8' in it, which I think is "GRRREAT!"
Onto the third of this week's series, I took my newly plated car over to Cabo Cantina in Pacific Beach to watch Game 6 of the Warriors/Lakers semifinals. The thrill of driving my California-official car and the luck of finding a great parking spot wore off quickly when the Warriors could not catch a break against Lebron and his sharp shooting team. Our server, Cannon?, Canyon?, (Not sure what his name really was, but he was a bestie for the restie) was a small ray of sunshine on a cloudy day and we shared a couple laughs.

I had the Sunset Rolls, which were NOT what I expected but still good. The menu was extensive, with an entire page dedicated to their selection of margaritas. I must return to visit our new Bestie Cannon and to try more flavors, especially when the giant margaritas are only $16.

On top of the Warriors devastating loss, Syann and I saw someone we went to high school with (and I went to SDSU with) that we are not huge fans of... it was a little hilarious. I did not stick around to acknowledge his presence and reminisce on our high school years. I could not even watch the final buzzer because I was too depressed about the Warriors losing. At least I got really lucky with parking so I could make a quick getaway. I hope the Warriors tighten up next season, because that Game 6 was embarrassing.
See you next week!
