Week 120: April 13th-19th, 2025
This week started off with a wonderful celebration of love. My "big" from Alpha Kappa Psi, Chris, got married to his wife Ebony this week, and I was honored to be included on their special day.
The wedding was held at VASA San Diego, a venue in North Park that is shockingly, *wink*, only 15 minutes from where I live. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and the ceremony started at 5pm.
They kindly asked that we refrain from taking photos during the ceremony because they hired a professional videographer and photographer to capture the moment, so I don't have many photos to share. I've included some photos from after the ceremony that are a mixture of ones I took as well as ones I got from the shared gallery guests were invited to add their photos to. (You gotta love modern technology and QR codes!)
I absolutely loved the color choices of gold and black that they picked, and felt that the venue didn't fully do the bridal party and groomsmen justice. Everyone was really gorgeous, and the maid of honor's speech made me cry more than I expected. What she said about being protective of her best friend while also realizing Ebony was in good hands with Chris was a beautiful thing. It made me really appreciate and love my best friends and look forward to the days where I'm giving speeches at their weddings. We enjoyed a nice dinner, witnessed some fun dances, and celebrated late into the night. It was truly a gorgeous event full of love and support, and I was proud to see Chris really flourish being surrounded by friends and family.
In other news, while my dad is in the running to be NBC Sports Bay Area's All-Star Teacher (reminder to vote daily for Greg Martin here), I saw another notable all star this week. If you know me, you know I love drag, so when my friend Mel facetimed me and said she won an Instagram giveaway for a show, I was immediately down. The famous and iconic Alyssa Edwards was coming to San Diego on her Crowned tour, and Mel had just secured us two free GA tickets! For those of you who may not be familiar, Alyssa Edwards is known for her appearance on Ru Paul's Drag Race season 5, Ru Paul's Drag Race All Stars season 2, and her current reigning title as the winner of Ru Paul's Drag Race Global All Stars season 1. She is incredibly talented, funny, and meme-able with lines like "BEAST!", ".....Backrolls!?", and her famous tongue pop.

The show was held at San Diego's House of Blues in Downtown. It started at 8pm, but I took the trolley downtown early to meet Mel. She had to pickup the tickets at will call starting at 5pm, so we just got dinner and drinks nearby at Coin Op before the show. They had a great deal for happy hour that included $8 margaritas and $3 slices of pizza.
We got to the House of Blues early, so we got a drink and some nachos there while we waited for the show to start. Our tickets were General Admission (GA), and standing room only, so we found a nice spot behind the stage crew desk and waited.
I have to say, I was glad I chose to wear the outfit with sneakers instead of heels, because (obviously) there wasn't anywhere to sit. The show started with a funny stand-up comedian and a local San Diego queen to open. Then, the magnificent Alyssa Edwards stepped onto the stage and immediately drew the crowd in with her charm and beauty. There were at least three major outfit changes throughout the show, and we were laughing for most of it.
I loved that the show was really all about Alyssa and her journey to the crown on Global All Stars. It felt long overdue when she did pull out that win, and I think fans are glad to see her riding the high from her victory still. I would definitely see Alyssa Edwards again if given the chance, because she is truly one of a kind.
See you next week..
