Week 111: February 9th-15th, 2025
This week, like all good weeks are, was full of good food. First, my sister and I got dinner at Kitakata Ban Nai in the Kearny Mesa/Convoy area. It was a rainy day, so getting ramen felt like a good choice for a cozy meal.
Kitakata Ban Nai shares a parking lot with the Kearny Mesa Target, which hurt my heart a bit. I am participating in the Target boycott that started on February 1st in protest of their removal of their DEI policy after Trump's harmful action. While I could write for hours on end about how many appalling and harmful things Trump and his "anti-woke" minions have already done, it wouldn't technically be anything new. So, in the interest of our sanity and to get back to the good stuff, I'll tell you the good parts about my week in food.
Kitakata Ban Nai doesn't just share a parking lot with Target. It is also next to Sunmerry Bakery and Bopomofo, which are two places I have yet to try. I made a mental note to return to that parking lot, if not for Target, but for food.

It was warm inside the restaurant, and since they had just opened for the evening, my sister and I were some of the only customers inside. I ordered the mixed veggie + chashu ramen, and my sister got a chashu rice bowl.
The food was really good, and the ramen was comforting and cozy, just like I wanted. After dinner, my sister and I braved the rain and browsed through Daiso and pointed out things that were cute. She got a little bear shaped tape measure for sewing, and I got some Calbee shrimp chips. We also made a pit stop at Yikoyiko, a super cute bakery with yummy-looking cakes, so she could pick up a cake to bring home.
The good food didn't stop in Convoy, because this week I also tried a bowl from The Poke Co., located right next door to my apartment. They were having a Buy One, Get One Free deal on Uber Eats, so it felt too good to pass up! I got two bowls for the price of one! If you know me, you know I love a good sale, especially a BOGO.
The poke bowl was decent, not world shatteringly good or anything, but I probably will end up ordering food from there again just because it is so convenient. And the BOGO deal was awesome.
As a bonus, I also want to share some sweet things from this week. First, a horribly embarrassing failure of an "Arkansas Possum Pie" I made following this recipe, and secondly, some less embarrassing chocolate covered strawberries. The pie was a fail because 1) I didn't include the whipped cream topping entirely, and 2) I think I didn't do the pudding layer correctly somehow, so it never set. On the bright side, it tasted amazing. Third, I also received some gorgeous, bright flowers and snacks for Valentine's Day!
I want to shout out my mother, probably the only one who reads these posts, as it is her 65th birthday this week as well. Happy Birthday Mommy! I love you!
See you next week!
