Week 108: January 19th-25th, 2025
This week, the stress from the multiple fires in San Diego was lessened a bit because my friend Sam came back to visit from Chicago.
To start things off right, we decided to try a restaurant in Little Italy called Postino.

Postino, like many up and coming spots in San Diego, is a new trendy type of restaurant called a wine cafe or wine bar. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of wine, but some of my friends are. I'll never turn down a good charcuterie board.
Here is the Postino Yelp page if you'd like to check it out as well. I'll admit I did steal some of the photos from Yelp for this post because the ones I took weren't the best.
We sat outside on the patio, which was only tolerable because we were saved by heat lamps sent from heaven. It has been truly cold for San Diego recently, and though the chill allows for some cute outfits with coats and sweaters, I find myself missing the warmth of summer.
We ordered two bruschetta boards, three bottles of wine, and a hummus plate to share. I also got myself a half panini, half tomato soup combo plate. While we waited for the food to come, I noticed a small sign on the table.

Each table had these little cards with Postino's happy hour deals on one side, and a definition of "Postino" on the other. It was cute and all, but I felt like my eyesight was bad or something. I realized the letters printed on the card were all smushed and stretched at random intervals and it had a very strange effect on the words while reading. I am not sure if I liked it or if I was bothered by it. Either way, no one else seemed to be worried about the sizing of the letters on the sign, so I tried to keep my wondering out loud to a minimum.
I made sure to try every kind of bruschetta. My favorite was probably the Sweet 'N' Spicy Pepper Jam and Goat Cheese one, or the classic mozzarella and tomato. We collectively weren't sure about the chef's choice option.
It is a goal of mine to get out of the house more, especially now that the days are getting longer again. I found myself becoming a bit of a homebody, as I normally do in the winter time, so it was nice to see my friends and enjoy some wine and food together.
For a trendy spot in Little Italy, Postino was surprisingly not too busy. This was nice because we could actually talk to each other and hear the conversation. Sometimes we go places and have to yell-talk our conversations over the noise. I also would like to shout out our server, Stephanie M., who played a little prank on us by changing the color of the fascinatingly mushroom-shaped LED lamps on our table. I think she saw me inspecting it and then changed the color when I pressed the button as a light hearted punishment for messing with the table settings. I got so confused because I kept pressing the button but nothing would happen, and then all of a sudden the color of the light would change! We all laughed about it in the end. I made sure to give her a good tip because I love when servers can have fun with their guests.
See you next week.
